I actually declined and said no!
(And then changed my mind ... WAIT FOR IT ... )

The riders reached out to me because their team had qualified for the NCEA Championship, a first for Dartmouth!
But here's the thing ... I don't do group coaching, and I don't coach college teams, (although I have in the past), but after I politely declined ...
The freshman rider that took it upon herself to step up and lead her team to get mental skills for the competition ...
Wouldn't take no for an answer.
And she came back to me with ammunition: I found out another rider on the team had mentioned me to this freshman based upon ...
A recommendation from my past, favorite junior rider client, Kate Egan.
In fact, this other team rider was Kate's best friend, and I had actually met her a few years ago when she was helping Kate Egan at the photo shoot in Wellington for Sidelines Magazine!
OK, so first, you had me at Kate Egan and also, I LOVE people who don't take no for an answer and fight for what they want!
And finally, Dartmouth was my home.
Not only did my father go to Dartmouth College ...
But my grandparents had their amazing overnight sports summer camp for girls just miles away from there on Lake Fairlee in Vermont!
So I spent much of my childhood there in Hanover, NH and even enjoyed the winters skiing at the Dartmouth Skiway!
I am a big believer in God and the universe putting the right people and events in our lives at the right time.
And when it all seems to align like that ... (I mean how many other signs do you need?) ... my rule is to say YES and dump all the other lower level parameters and rules!
But, Realty Check; We were just two weeks out. And they had finished a "less than their best" winter season after an impressive fall season.
Confidence, belief, and morale was down. They were having a tough time letting go of the baggage from the past.
More reality; my mental skills coaching program is 24 weekly, customized ONE-ONE-ONE sessions for a rock solid transformation into Equestrian Rockstars.
So while it was never my best subject, the simple math wasn't adding up. That being said, every rider progresses at a different pace, and I never know who will need more or less until I start working with them.
However, even for the riders that transform quickly, obviously 24 sessions of mental skills and peak performance training will generate better results than less!
(Not to mention anchoring the transformation into LASTING RESULTS.)
BUT my brand is specializing in creating miracles and getting it done no matter what challenge you place in front of me.
And another rule I have is, we RISE UP WITH PRESSURE! We don't do limiting beliefs and then shrink and run away.
So bring it on! I'm all in! Let's win this thing!
So how did it turn out?
I coached the riders on the team by phone with only 6 one hour group sessions.
And completing that, I gave each rider a customized one-on-one coaching session with me.
(And we complimented all that with a few other powerful coaching/teaching tools.)
Then as I was riding down the turnpike the day of the competition, I got the group call from the team;
"We won the NCEA Championship! We made history for Dartmouth College! Thank you so much! We couldn't have done it without you!"
(I am also now the proud owner of a stuffed unicorn wearing a Dartmouth t-shirt that came in the mail! shortly thereafter.)
